ABOUT
Blink Friction is an independent, UK-based upcycling and alternative art project founded by artist, writer, and musician Sarnia de la Maré
(often known as "FRIX"). The project sits at the intersection of punk
culture, feminist expression, and salvage art, operating as a quiet
protest against mass-produced consumerism.
The project consists of several core creative ventures:
- Upcycled Art: Sarnia creates unique, hand-painted sigils (symbolic seals) directly onto discarded media and reclaimed surfaces. These pieces use acrylics, stencils, and mixed media, and are often painted on vintage vinyl records or reclaimed paper.
- Crafting and Decoupage: Blink Friction sells specialized A4 decoupage papers, printed ephemera, and stencils (featuring alternative and street art aesthetics) for artists, card-makers, and junk journalers.
- Sustainable Vintage Fashion: Sarnia curates and sells pre-loved clothing, vintage garments, and upcycled garments.
- Elderescence Academy: A reflective project and podcast created by Sarnia focusing on creative longevity, ageing well, and building self-trust through fashion, drawing, and visual essays.
You can explore the available original artworks, paper crafts, and vintage apparel directly through the Blink Friction eBay Store, or view more of the creative process on the Digital AURA Art Project.
